2011-17 Mustang Transmission Problems Surround Getrag MT82 System
issues plague manual mustang transmission vehicles equipped with mt82
Despite relying upon a reputation firmly grounded in quality and performance, owners experiencing Mustang transmission problems have been confused, disappointed and more by the manufacturer’s failure to act on thousands of product issues. Ford Motor Company’s lack of answers for a shocking volume of complaints surrounding the 2011-17 standard (manual) Mustang transmission problems many have faced has resulted in a wide number of complaints. It has also resulted in a Mustang transmission class action case that current and former owners must keep an eye on due to the potential impact it will have on their legal rights.
Merely because a vehicle is considered to be a “performance vehicle” does not mean that owners should accept, or worse be blamed for a breakdown of transmission parts. Frankly, there’s no excuse for a manufacturer failing to step up and make right a systemic problem with the Mustang transmission that’s been widely reported on. Message boards report an abundance of transmission problems affecting the 2011-17 Mustang transmissions. Current and former owners understand the concerns and repair issues many have experienced with the standard transmission used in these vehicles that were purchased, relying upon the company’s brand and alleged focus on quality. Our law firm believes it is time for those individuals impacted by the failing and/or problematic standard Getrag MT82 transmissions in select Mustangs to receive all the compensation they deserve.
Stern Law is well aware of the transmission issues owners of Ford vehicles have faced. Our work on behalf of current and former owners of Ford Focus and Fiesta vehicles with transmission problems is well documented. In fact, our work exposing transmission problems in Focus and Fiesta vehicles has been featured in a number of nationally-respected publications. However, we became aware of a major issue with the Getrag MT82 Mustang transmission due to the number of complaints we learned about from concerned Ford owners and by reviewing the Mustang message boards. What’s more, as we looked more closely into the issue, we discovered that there were a number of common issues in the Mustang transmission that are eerily similar to our ongoing legal claims for Ford Focus, Fiesta and Fusion owners. While that may be surprising for some, especially given that the standard Mustang transmission is marketed based on its performance and speed, when compared to the automatic used in these other models the common strain of Ford Motor Company’s actions (or lack thereof) is strikingly and frustratingly similar, as seen below.
First, Ford Motor Company has released a wide range of TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) in response to issues surrounding the Mustang transmission. You can see the current list of Mustang transmission TSBs here. While it is arguably (and sadly) common for manufacturers to release such guidance for their dealerships and technicians to follow, it is also considered material evidence for those who believe faulty design, manufacturing and product quality have resulted in significant issues. These transmission issues are not only frustrating, but they are also time consuming. Consumers should not be required to repeatedly visit a dealership for assistance. We have seen a flurry of TSBs and “Customer Satisfaction Programs” by Ford in other cases where transmissions malfunctioned and believe the Mustang transmission issues will only continue this trend. That Ford has been so active in addressing issues with 2011-17 Mustang transmission is concerning – and telling.
Second, the limited responsibility Ford has taken on this issue is very problematic. Despite widespread complaints, Ford has not provided any extended warranty coverage or acknowledged the issue beyond the aforementioned TSBs addressing issues with the 2011-17 Mustang transmission. While owners would have felt more comfortable with their purchase and the integrity of the vehicle had Ford expanded the warranty coverage on the Mustang transmission, the company’s refusal to step up and support their customers has resulted in significant disappointment for owners… and financial hardship for those tasked with replacing these expensive transmission parts.
Finally, the fact that the Mustang transmission class action case has been ongoing and shows no sign of slowing, despite multiple attempts by Ford to have it dismissed, is a strong indication there is merit to the complaint that current and former owners nationwide were harmed by this issue.
If you have or had a 2011-17 manual/standard Mustang with transmission issues, we encourage you to contact Stern Law today. We have unfortunately seen a number of class action settlements dramatically impact the legal rights of current and former owners while failing to account for the real financial issues created by poor manufacturing. This is especially true for those who purchased their vehicle in certain states, especially due to the significant consumer protections available under some state laws. If you want to avoid a Mustang transmission class action settlement changing your legal options in a way you do not agree with, you are welcome to contact us to begin your claim, or simply to be kept aware of major developments in this class action case and in the event of a settlement we will always inform you about your legal rights and options. Most importantly, we are not the class action law firm that filed a case surrounding Mustang transmission issues – instead, we are a law firm with a proven track record of assisting those facing a class action settlement by instead opting out to pursue all the compensation you deserve through your own individual case.
Stern Law is here to listen to you about your experience with Mustang transmission issues and provide legal counsel on your next steps. Our firm proactively assists owners and former owners before a class action settlement has been reached to ensure timely legal action and to provide access to critical documents that may otherwise be lost in the mail. Doing so helps current and former owners review the facts and make the best decision based upon the Mustang transmission problems and their vehicle repair history. It also helps us in preserving the rights of those who want and need options outside of the class action, through an individual claim filed by our firm. By opting out of a class action case which does not meet their needs, those facing such a legal challenge can preserve their right to an individual claim based upon the merit of their own, unique claim.
